Ed, Gas and diesels are like apples and dump trucks. I will not be getting more than a 5kw gennie. Since its going to be diesel you will want to run it with a heavy load most of the time. A 7.6 from Westerbeke would be OK, but I think the 5kw westie is the way I'll be going. Aslo, don't forget, we don't use our gennies up here like you down there. We don't need to run our ac most of the time. You defintely don't want a 9kw. Scott... Tell Bobby Gallagher I said hello, and that I still own the Grady 24 on which he replaced one of the power heads probably 8 years ago. I am a life member of Jubilee YC in Beverly and at that time he had a shop just down the street. He is a great guy.. honest and highly regarded by everyone I have met who knows him! I have the 7.6 KW Westebeke Genset with the SST sound shield. The 5.0 KW uses the same exact SST sound shield so require same space if going with the sound shield. Originally I was going to have the 7.0 KW Norpro installed, but with the sound shield it was 1/2" - 1" to tall. The Westerbeke fit under the cockpit, but definitely a tight fit. When I repowered to diesel (Yanmar 315 6LYUTE) in 2003, I also choose a 5OZ Kohler 5kw (Yanmar engine)in the lazzerete and it serves me as well as the old 6.5kw gasser did. I run it with AC almost all the time I'm away from the dock. With 1100 hrs on it it has been enough kw for all my needs and it is compact enough for servicing in that space. All that being said..... it does get too wet and I have wished I had a hush box to help protect (and silence) it better. Kohler has been good to me on any warranty issues when needed too. I was going to put it under the cabin, BUT... when i started to look at the cost of all the plumming for water, exhaust, rewiring AND the weight/balance issues, I really felt it should be in the aft end as designed. It does seem a bit strange that their is no gen in your 33 after a repower...huumm Good luck and nice to hear your getting the RIGHT boat! Chris

Has anybody thought of the Fisher-Panda installed in the engine compartment. I admire them at the boat shows every year. I know they are pricey, but they are tiny. I never have known anybody that has one either. When I put in the new Kohler, I thought about them, but they don't do gas. Gene Dugan Boca Raton, Fl. "Nauti Marie" 1989 33 FBC

Gene, A couple of guys from the 31 site swear that the Panda's are the noisiest things on the planet and that they tend to shake themselves apart in no time. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA
