Doug's Re-power
Thanks Tim. I'll check them out. Any reason you went with Tides rather than PSS? Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't find prices on that site. The PSS are $230-$265 per side. What do the Tides go for? Doug, I have PSS on mine now. At the 50 hour check-up, the mechanic suggested I add a crossover hose connecting each water line. In the event that you have to run on one engine, he said you want to be able to flip a valve and have water flow from the running engine PSS to the non running engine's PSS so that when the prop begins free-wheeling underway, you have water flow to that engine's PSS. Is it really hard to change or tighten the packing on a FBC? I think of my GFO packing as almost maintenance free. If I put those PSS things on, I'd be always worried that something happened to the water flow and I was going down...Simple is better as far as I'm concerned.

GFO so far has been great for me, cant imagine screwing something up so simple by putting PSS on. We're not commercial fisherman here are we? Bill 1988 33 FBC Ipswich, Ma. > ~-------

Pete, Its a gore-tex infused packing that replaces the old flax packing. Since it does not need much water to lubricate the shaft you can tighten it down more than the old stuff. Also, it does not shrink or swell. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA
