Tim's Re-power
Tim's Re-power
Tim, How're things going with the re-power? I saw on another post that you got the cabinets out. How was that? Any chance you can post pics of the job as various steps are completed? I'd love to see the interior without the cabinets running along the starbord side. Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth

I dropped my boat off monday to the marina and it is still sitting in the water where i left it.The only thing they did is prepped the motors to be removed. They did remove the starboard side of the back cabin wall. They were not planning to do that but after they took the exhaust manifold they realized that it had been removed before and came out easily. This is great because it will make install easier and the new engines will not have to be disassembled. They will not order the engines until they get the old ones out.they sais they would rather do that since the fit will be tight they want to get a better measure with the old engines out....also they want to check the prop clearance to see how big a prop will fit to determine the gear ratio to order. The formula for max prop size i guess is 15 percent of prop diameter is needed for clearance between prop tips and hull bottom for best performance..so that means about 3.5".I would guess all of our boats would have the same distance between shaft end and hull.so any of you who have their boat out mayb you can measure to compare. Doug, my cabinets came out very easy except for a lot of stripped screws so i took bob vilas advice and went to sears and bought a stripped screw remover and boy did it work great...i am putting new teak looking mica on the fronts and a ocean looking granite mica on the counter top. the cabinets are good wood solid cabinets i could not find a reason to replace them.I did think of removing half of them to get more seating room or put a full fridge or freezer but i decided it wasnt worth it for now to lose the free cabinet space. is there a way to post images on this site? Tim, Why do they need to check for prop clearance? I thought you were going to try to use your current props? If so, then the clearance wouldn't change. Also wouldn't that dictate a ratio of around 2:1 since your old ratio was 1.9:1? David, Any insight on how Tim can post pics to the site? Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth

Doug, I do not know anything yet for sure until they pull my boat and motors and figure how the new 8.1 will fit. That itself will dictate if i need new shafts. The extra horsepower and torque alone leads me to believe that i will need new props regardless.Dont get me wrong i would love to keep my shafts and props to save money. but if my engine sits too low by moving the engine back to meet the shafts, then i need new shafts at that point. I would have to make a decision to change things such as shaft diameter, gear ratio and prop size.I think changing shafts from 1.375 to 1.5" is a given. gear ratio and prop size seem to go hand in hand and as i have not heard any defining answers as to what set up is better it seems like the slight edge goes to 2.5 gears and larger props for efficiency and handling. Gotcha. BTW, Check out David's post on the New/Rebuilt Generator thread on the SF forum. He provides a link on how to post photos. Lets get this whole thing documented for posterity! Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth

Tim, I was going to see if I could get your pics posted correctly, but I don't see them in the folder. Maybe they didn't upload correctly. Also, as a general rule of thumb, I don't put spaces in file names, I use underscores. I don't think there is a dpi limit, but I'm not certain of that. Anyway, you got one up, that's good, if you need help with the others, just email me at webmaster@bertram33.com. David Sumich Bertram33.com Forum Administrator

David , i brought the dpi down to 72 dpi i think that helped. The other was just too big.I am used to very large files in my business ,after all my camera produces a 51mb file.It is very easy to post pix and i think your web site is very user friendly. Tim Stamm Photo Finish 1981 33' Bertram FBC
