Dynajet Props 23 x 26

Post by captxmas62 »

I have a set of 23" x 26 x 1-1/2" Shafts - Michigan Wheel Dynajets up for grabs. They are in good shape and I can no longer use them. My new transmission ratios are too far off and I had to downsize the wheels significantly. 2.54:1 to 1.90:1. I put on a set of Nibral 20" x 19.5 P - 4 Blade wheels and playing with the cup. Tried a pair of 20" x 20" Nibral Full Cup 3- Blades and got up to 30.2 knots at WOT w/ half fuel. Can't get quite there yet w/ the 4- blades (Max 3850 rpm's at 28.4 Knots). The new engines are 400 hp Crusaders w/ BW 72C's. Please let me know if anyone needs a set of props. All the best, Jim

Sorry, been away from the site lately. The props are still available, but they are 3-Blade Dynajets. I had to go down to 20"x 20" w/ new gears. Let me know if you are still interested, they are in good shape. Thanks, Jim

Rick, The boat does really well with these 400 hp motors. I cruise at 22-23 knots w/ 3/4 Fuel @ 3100 rpms My top end is right around 29-30 knots @ 3800 rpms w/ the 4-Blade 20" x 20" Props. I have never brought her up higher than 3800 yet...no reason to. The 3-Blade Props were faster 32 knots at 3800 rpms, but Cruise was a little slower 21 knots at 3200 rpms. As far as cost, I'm happy to say that I never added anything up. If I did, I'd probably still be balled up in the fetal position. The Motors were 2000 Vortec 454's that came out of a 32 Blackfin that was re-powered w/ diesels. They had low hours 250-300 and decent Gears 2.54:1 BW Velvet Drives. I picked them up for $4K and went through them from the crank on up (approx $10k for everything not including the original cost). The majority of the work, other than machining and fine tuning, I did myself. So far, so good. I have a lot of videos of the boat running on FB, if you want to see them. Just look me up. If you have any questions, please ask. I'm in your neighborhood often, my sister lives in Mashpee. All the best, Jim

Rick, I had a brain fart with the tranny ratio's. I took out my 2.54:1 BW's and the new ones are 1.91:1 BW's that were with the motors. My mind was elsewhere when I typed that. Take care, Jim

Folks, I just came up on the set of 23" x 26" P x 1 1/2" Shaft Dyna-Jet Props that I have available. Stuck them up on a shelf and forgot about them. Please let me know if anyone needs them. 203-824-4370 I went down to 20" x 19.5" 4-Blade w/ the new trannys, so do not need these anymore. They are in great shape and were just services when I pulled them. Take care, Jim

Hi Jim, Were the 454 Vortecs that you re-powered with stock 400 HP or were they modified to get there? My 86 Merc 454s are 340HP with the 2:1 gears turning 23x26 props. Would you have been able to use your 2:1 gears with the new engines and keep your 23x26 props? What would you be burning at your cruise with the 4 blades?

Gerard, The Votecs were stock 400hp when I bought them from the guy re-powering with diesels. Completely different animal than the Mercs I took out, even the new long blocks that I tried. If I was a smart man, I would have used the 2.54:1 tranny's from the Mercs and stayed with the 23 x 26 props...but I am not and went with the 1.91:1 Tranny's on the Vortecs. Figuring why mess with success. I went through a few props to get where I am now 20 x 19.5 4-Blade. Honestly, I loved the performance of the 20 x 20 x Full Cup props that I tried. Speed was over 30 knts and I never brought it above 3900 rpm's. But the 4-Blades have a much better/smoother cruise. 23 knots at <3200, but the top end drops off over 3800 and tops out at 29 knts at that rev. I have no reason to go any higher after dumping in so much cash, 3800 is all i need to see. Hopefully that helps a little. Just let me know if you have any other questions. Take care, Jim

James, I don’t know if you use Facebook but there are a couple of Bertram Facebook groups on there that may help facilitate moving your props. The two groups are: Bertram yacht owners The magnificent Bertram’s Both groups are very active, and sales seem to happen pretty quickly.
