just to keep everyone up to date . I have submitted my application for ins. coverage to hagerty ins. but it takea awhile(i guess) but they were very thorough with their questions. one that stuck me was a hurricane plan. I need to inform them where the boat would be during a storm and what was my plan of securing it . Winthrop harbor is the most docile area i have ever been in and my mooring is very secure. ( the club wants all boats off the docks during a hurricane so a mooring is a must)I cant immagine why im having this trouble except that maybe the age of the boat. Its a 73 but it shows great
Pete - Have you checked out Travelers Insurance ? That's who I've got through Thomas Gregory Insurance in Wakefield. No questions....yet. Have been with them for about 3 years now and if you'd like to compare prices I'll be happy to go over them with you. Rick Ticket 85 SF Falmouth, MA

I've got Travelers also, very easy to deal with and the price is low. No dumb questions about Hurricanes either! I would tell them you plan to haul out, which most people would do I imagine. Bill 1988 33 FBC Ipswich, Ma. > ~-------

I have travelers as well including homeowners and auto. I just got notice of cancellation for my homeowners, the excuse is they are re-evaluating due the chance of hurricane. They did offer another policy at 2 times the cost. So I can't wait to my boat policy is due........ I let you know what I find. Capt Rich Catch 22 1989 33 FBC

Peter - I'm sure that your agent knows a lot about insurance and is very helpful. But in my experience most agents aren't experienced with boats. They will tell what some customer service agent at the parent company is saying. You need to educate them a little and let them know they aren't the only ones who can insure your boat. I asked a friend here in NC who owns a yacht sales and repair operation about who to go to.. he suggested Charter Lakes Insurance. They specialize in marine insurance exclusively. They took me on with my diesel '83 FBC. My contact in their local office said they are wary of insuring older boats, in fact he said if mine wasn't a Bertram he thought they might not have taken it. I found my local homeowner's/auto insurance guy didn't have a clue about insuring boats.. they insured my 24' Grady White for $15K, but when I went there to talk about my Bertram all I got was a story about how nobody wanted to insure older boats any more. He also suggested I go to a marine insurance specialist. Go to a company that specializes in marine insurance, not your local homeowner's agent around the corner. rick, i hope they let this problem be for awhile . I would like to get one more season from my boat before i have to change full tanks and repower(which is on my future task list). Ive been watching the threads on the 8.1s and i think thats where i want to go. Maybe i'll wake up one morning and find that we realy dont have to change fuel tanks. pete
