Replacing Windlass Want to Use Same Wiring
My Ideal windlass was torn up by a passing sailboat last storm season and I've just finished building a replacement teak bowsprit. It seems a pity to have to drill new holes for a replacement windlass, but the Ideal was anemic at best. I really don't want to have to run new wiring and would accept a...

Insulating Engine Boxes Bertram 33 SF
The previous owner had removed all of the engine insulation form the engine boxes. I'm running 3208 CATS. Does anybody have any opinions on the amount of sound reduction with insulation (worth it or not worth it) and if it's worth it on the type of insulation to use.

Fishing Tackle Center
It's always bugged me that there isn't a lot of tackle storage space available in the 33SF. At the time that I had the hull of the boat Imron-ed a few years ago I was talked into replacing the side panels below the bolsters with a melamine surfaced hardboard that has now started to de-laminate. I've...

I phoned the Canadian company - they want $368 to put in new lexan and gaskets. It's better than the $1161 to replace the cast aluminum hatch. I went to the boat today to take exact measurements of the opening to see if a less expensive Lewmar would fit. Clearly I used the wrong sealant when I recau...

Kohler Generators
There is something you should know if you have an older Kohler though. The company sttled a pretty massive lawsuit not so long ago for using a cast iron exhaust elbow (they've now switched to ss) that corrodes inside out and killed a few people.

I like the idea of calling Bomar, turns out the place I found on the web is in Canada. Nothing against north of the border, but wonder if there would be customs foolishness on a foreign repair. I replaced the caulk last year but was not pleased with the job I did and have to believe they could do be...

Took the boat out and did the one engine tests; both engines gave identical gps speed readings (ranging around 8.5 knots); so I guess I'll get the mechanic to take a run with me to check the governor settings and to check if engines are performing as designed. The engines did produce a little black ...
