Re: cummins 5.9 diesel engine...
I figured that's what you meant but thought I should clarify for Glen. Or Denise , who will have to report back to Glen.

Re: cummins 5.9 diesel engine...
It is on the bell housing, it counts the teeth on the flywheel. It needs to be adjusted very close but not touching the teeth. Like, tighten it down to touch and back it off 1/4 - 1/2 turn.

Re: Question on Cummins Install
I don't think it would be necessary to leave the mounts off. I think I set the engines on the front mounts and used blocks on the rear . Joe had the porto power advantage that I didn't but it worked anyway. I had a few guys helping with the original install, I recall Al Lupone down there next to an ...

Re: Question on Cummins Install
Hi Bob, The transmissions will have to be off, easy to install those afterward. I had a local, very talented tow truck / crane operator do the original install, there was just enough room to get the head of the crane in there with the engines hanging off of it. A few years later I wanted to pull one...

Re: Need Lee Senior outrigger holder Base
I assume a bronze casting. Very easy to weld and the weld will be strong. Something to consider if you just can't find one. TIG welding would be the first and best option.

Re: Need Lee Senior outrigger holder Base
Should be able to weld it and get it rechromed. More expensive than finding a used one but do-able.

Re: Wisdom from the 33 SF Owners
I haven't heard of that much cruise speed from the old Cats, more like maybe 20 kts. Could be less depending on the condition of the turbo housings. Fuel burn should be around 20 at that speed, maybe a touch more, again depending on condition of those turbos. The exposure to moisture over the years ...

Re: Wisdom from the 33 SF Owners
gunnels are pretty high. Filling a 5 gal bucket with seawater is a challenge because the sides are so high. You'd have to be trying real hard to fall out. Alcohol may have to play a part.

Re: Wisdom from the 33 SF Owners
It can be a bit tight doing any kind of raw water pump maintenance , other than that it's not an issue . Of course I have inline engines, the 3208's I imagine are more difficult to maintain in just about any situation. As far as shaft sizes go, I could be mistaken on the diesel shaft size, it may ha...

Re: Wisdom from the 33 SF Owners
Hi Jack, As an owner of one of the later versions I can tell you my perspective on my boat. There really don't seem to be any design flaws, it's more how you plan to use your boat which should help make your decision as to the later vs earlier question. For '86 Bertam moved the aft bulkhead back by ...

Re: Sportfish with 3208 260hp
<t>The problem with the logic is the expense of doing the Cats. That and the low -ish power output. The Cats are great engines but no real aftermarket support which would help drive down rebuild prices, so those obsolete parts become hard to find and expensive, The mechanic is more expensive. You'd ...

Re: Sportfish with 3208 260hp
IM LOOKING INTO REPOWERING WITH 3208 TA REMANS.I HAVE THE ORIGINAL 3208T W/2800HRS ANY SUGGESTIONS. My suggestion would be to not waste your money. By the time you waste the time to get the information to find out it's a waste of time, you've spend too much trying to make that setup work when there...

Re: Thickness of bow deck?
All decks are balsa cored. Not sure of the exact thickness but it would be close to an inch. There are a few small places around here and there that are just glass but any span at all is cored.
